I have two goals for this post. The first one is to plug a website about college text books. The other is to plug a website about... you guessed it, bean bag chairs. Namely, college bean bag chairs.

The first website is called SFAbooks.com. It was created for students of SFASU to buy and sell textbooks with other students on campus, instead of getting ripped off by bookstores. It's a useful tool for college students. The site also has a professor rating system so future students can be warned about professors.

The other site of course is an online retailer of college bean bag chairs. You know I can't put a post on my site without mentioning bean bags. There are over 45 or so college and university bean bags available. So be sure to get one from your favorite school. Unfortunately, SFASU (Stephen F. Austin State University) is not available. But don't worry, I've written letters to the company to see what can be done.

Obligatory New Year Bean Bag Post

The new year is here! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break. Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas? I did! DVDs were the big gift this year for me. I guess everybody that knows me knows that I like to sit in my King Size Fuf Chair with some Doritos and a ice cold Pepsi and watch good movies. That's how I've been spending some of my days off.

I made the mistake of not getting the removable liner on my Fuf Chair, I know I am going to get fingerprints or spill something on it. Well, I know what to ask for next year. Maybe I'll just get an extra cover to put over the chair to give the room a whole new look. But that's cheating. I can't remain king of the bean bags by copping out and just buying the cover. No, I'll have to get a whole new chair.

Black Friday: Line Up Online

Today is Black Friday. It sounds like a bad thing, but Black Friday is the mega-busy shopping day after Thanksgiving. Stores offer super low offers on a limited number of items to lure shoppers into the stores... and it works. I drove by a Best Buy last night and saw people lined up, bundled up, and camping out waiting for the store to open so they could be the first to get a good deal. I should have offered them some comfy bean bags to sit on while they waited. ;)

Actually, all these folks could save more money over time by shopping online (especially on electronics). I bet if you bought all your electronic items online over a year, you could save more money than waiting in the cold all night to save on one stinking item. That's just my two cents.

Start Your Shopping: Beanbags Part II

Well, as I said in my last post, the Christmas shopping season is ready to begin. The first clue is when the weather turns cold. Sales will steadily increase as we get closer to the holidays. Oh by the way, the Foof chair that I mentioned in my previous post is now called a Fuf chair. It's weird but I noticed that the name changed on all the major online stores. I'm not sure, but I think that product has had a lot of names. I think it was originally called a Poof chair, then a Foof chair, and now it's called a Fuf chair. What's next? How about a Goof chair? Well whatever they call it- just buy one for me please.

Start Your Shopping: Beanbags

It may seem early, but it is already time to start getting ready for holiday shopping. Since we all know what I am asking for, I won't talk about it. Ok, I lied. This year I am asking for a Foof Beanbag. You will notice at all the bean bag sites out there that offer these products typically take longer to manufacture than regular beanbags, so be sure to get your orders in early. I know the Christmas delivery cut-off dates are going to be early for these items.

So if anybody wants to buy a Foof Chair for me the Christmas, I want a large Foof with purple velvet. Email me if you will buy it for me. I am too poor to buy it myself. And I already got a bean bag chair from Santa last year, so I can't easily ask for another one.

Happy Birthday Bean Blog Chair

In all the hustle and bustle of my blogging and directory making, I totally missed the one year anniversary of my blog. It was July of 2005 when I first started this project. Now here we are a year (and a month) later and my little hobby is still around. The amazing fact isn't the fact that it this site is still here, what's amazing is that I still actually update it.

So many blogs come and go yet mine trucks on. Blogs are like puppies, sure they are fun at first, but then they grow up and aren't cute anymore. They become a responsibility and an unwanted obligation. (I probably just offended a lot of dog lovers) But not this blog. I guess when you are writing about the most exciting subject around, bean bag chairs, it's easy to stay with it.

So happy 1st birthday Bean Bag Chair Pro, the ultimate bean blog chair!

Creating a Furniture Directory

I have decided to create a furniture directory to share my vast knowledge with the online community. So far, I plan to have the following: e-commerce/shopping, bean bags, inflatables, kids, & maybe video game furniture. I was in the mall the other day and I say was looked like a temple of comfort, but upon closer inspection, saw a temple of financial doom. I am talking about Love Sacs. Can anybody tell me why these are so expensive? Seriously, you can buy almost identical products online, have them shipped for free, and still pay far less than you would at one of these retail joints. Am I paying for a name brand here? Is this the Cadillac of bean bags? No, it's the same materials, same stuffing, just about the same everything as the Foof Chairs I see online. So I checked out the Love Sac website, they were bragging about celebrities that have sat in their chairs. Do I want to sit in the same chairs that celebrities sit in? Guess what, every celebrity has drunk water before and so have I, guess that makes me cool. In conclusion, here's my new slogan, "don't be a doof, buy a foof!" So if you see a faded sign at the end of the road that says 15 miles to the love sac... turn around, go home, order online, save gas, save money.

"Have a Seat Athlete"

Bean bag chairs a great for playing video games, like Madden Football. Another factor to consider while buying a bean bag chair as a gift is its placement. The bean bad chairs vary according to the place where it is placed, like bedroom, lounge, or by the pool.

When you are selecting a bean bag chair to gift a child, it is best to select dark color with strong fabric, as the child is likely to spill something and be rough with it. The history of bean bag chairs show that the evolution of it was because of this reason. The bean bag chair was not developed suddenly. Various other attempts were made to create a chair comfortable for all needs. In 1967, a dome-shaped foam chair, called "Sea Urchin" was made by Roger Dean. In 1968, another soft, pliable chair, called the "Ciprea", was created by Afra and Tobia Scapra. These chairs were the precursors of the first bean bag chairs.

It was in 1969 that the first bean bag chairs were created by Italian designers Gatti, Paolini and Teodora. The bean bag chairs were prepared for a furniture farm called Zanotta. The first bean bag chairs were called the "Sacco".

The Sacco bean bag chairs were made of leather and were pear-shaped. What made the Sacco chairs soft were the expanded polystyrene beads that were filled inside the chairs. They made the bean bag chairs foamless and flexible. But it was not then that people got to use the bean bag chair. Various attempts to mass-produce these bean bag chairs failed.

Once the process of mass-production started, the Sacco became a craze. Some believe that these bean bag chairs occurred accidentally when polystyrene off-cuts were thrown into a bag at the end of the Styrofoam production line. Furniture was supposed to be static and inflexible before the discovery of the bean bag chairs. The Sacco bean bags were the first widely popular furniture items that could move with the human body. The bean bag chairs became an icon of "POP" culture.

70's Decor

The most important 1970’s décor colors were avocado and harvest gold. Fashion of one era comes back to the next dressed as old wine in new bottle. Similarly, the 1970’s home décor items are finding their place in contemporary designs. The chief items that remind us of 1970’s décor are door beads, bright geometric prints and bean bag chairs.

Applying wallpapers, painting walls and other surfaces, choosing furniture and fittings, and collecting paintings and sculptures were used to decorate rooms during 1970’s. One of the chief constitute of a 1970’s décor is the fireplace. Between 1971 and 1975, the number of new homes with fireplaces increased by 18%. Rooms with central air conditioning also saw an increase. The 1970’s fireplace accessories can add the right atmosphere to your décor. The fire tools like the shovel, poker, brush and a pair of tongs were made of brass, bronze or wrought iron.

Various home décor items were used during the 1970’s. A horse head barware was made of four unique pieces of bar set utensils. The set contained a cork screw, a double shot glass, a bottle opener, and a stir spoon. The copper craft guild, consisting of eight punch cups were used in the 1970’s to decorate the room. The bed rooms contained various décor items like clock-radios with flip numbers, waterbeds, cool lamps, and plastic accessories in bright colors. The rooms were brightly colored and were mainly colored in shades.

The common colors used for decoration in the 1970’s were orange, yellow, avocado, olive green, gold, and brown. The other 1970’s décor items include string art, embroidered wall hangings, paintings on black velvets, white plastic tables, bean bag chairs, fiber optic lamps, shag carpeting, and dark wood paneling. The 1970’s outdoor décor includes a mansard roof, hibachi grill, aluminum siding, and a beautiful backyard with patio and swing seats.

Bean Bag Technology 2.0

The bean bag chair of today is a far superior product than the chairs of the 1970's. Gone are the easy-to-open zippers and easy-to-puncture materials. Most chairs are manufactured with double zippers with safety locks to prevent children from opening the chair and releasing the styrofoam beads. The beads can be a choking hazard for children, or at the very least- create a mess. Sewing technology has also improved. Bags are made using double stitched and triple stitched seams. All this helps bean bag chairs to last longer, be safer, and be more fun than they ever have been. Most bean bag chairs are still manufactured by hand. The days of computer operated robots manufacturing bean bag chairs in a high tech facility is not here yet, but the future looks bright for bean bag technology.

Speaking of technology, here is a site just for bean bag bloggers like myself: LS Blogs.

The Bean Bag's Only Rival: Inflatable Furniture

I do believe that bean bag chairs and inflatable furniture can live in this world with peace and harmony. Are there regrets? Sure. But life is filled with choices we've made that we can't take back. That is what makes life so diverse and exciting. I remember when I was just a boy and my dad gave me my first bean bag chair. I cried like a baby because I wanted a purple one, but he got me a red one instead. I was selfish. I didn't realize we were poor and my dad had made the bean bag chair himself. He worked in the fields to grow corn kernals that were used for filler. He hand-wove the exterior fabric he made from Q-tip cotton and strands of his own hair. It was sewn together with dental floss and weighed 340 pounds. It was made with kindness and double-stitched with love.

I wish I still had "Ol' Corny." But that bean bag chair expoded when I left it outside one hot summer day. But you know what, the memory of that chair will live on forever.

Industry Players: Bean Bags:

The following is a list of companies that are in the bean bag business. I've compiled this list based on many intense minutes of research. I've actually spent a lot of time working on this list, but that makes me look like a loser. So without further ado, the list:

"A" Players
HotBeanBags.com - Professional, Great Site
AmysBeanBags.com - NA
BeanBagIt.com - Huge Selection, Poor Lay-out
AhhProds.com - Lots of Info, User-unfriendly
TheBeanBagChairOutlet.com - Cool Products - Poor Lay-out
BeanBags.com - Professional, boring products
Cordaroys.com - Good Pictures, ugly site
BeanBagSuperStore.com - Good Store, It's not Super

"B" Players
BeanBagchairsBeanBagChairs.com - Replica of another site
BeanBagStation.com - Unique Products, New?

If you don't see a site on here, it's because of one of the following reasons: 1) It has a poor website and clearly does not have the professional appearance that is required to be ranked as an industry player, or 2) I don't know about it.

If you would like to inform me of a site, send me a comment. I may listen. I will comment more on each company later. I am creating a profile on all the companies and I am in the process of secret shopping and calling their customer service numbers to see how they handle my bean bag needs. I have some amusing comments to make about each one. What's my goal? None really. Just to reinforce my claim of being a bean bag chair expert. Please keep in mind these are the opinions of a self-proclaimed expert and enthusiast.

Christmas is Coming!

Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat,
Please to put a penny in the old man's hat.
If you haven't got a penny, a half penny will do,
If you haven't got a half penny, then God bless you!

That is a Muppet classic. Miss Piggy on lead vocals lets her talent soar. I've already decided what kind of bean bag I want for Christmas. This year I am asking Santa for a faux suede fabric bean bag chair. They're new so I will have to tell, uh... "the elves" to "build" it quickly before they are sold out. By "build" I mean buy and by "the elves" I mean my mom. They're only like $89.00 so I don't think it will put the "the elves" in poor house. Do this by purchasing a bean bag that does NOT use virgin refill. Virgin refill is polystyrene (or Styrofoam) that is chemically made to be put into a bean bag. Polystyrene takes just short of forever to biodegrade. There is plenty of this material already on our planet to warrant new material being manufactured. Look for a retailer that only sells recycled filler in their bean bag chairs. There is no reason to add more junk to the earth that will end up in landfills forever.

Inflatable Furniture

What is it about college life that compels so many young men and women to purchase inflatable furniture? Is it the comfort factor? Is it the fascinating idea that the only thing separating you from the floor is your own breath? Or is it the fact that a real couch would cost well over $600. I submit that it's the latter. I had one inflatable chair. It was clear but nowadays you have so many choices of colors. There are chairs, sofas, love seats, bean-less bean bags, ottomans, and accessories too. What a wonderful world we live in. Oops, ended that last sentence with a preposition. (that was so awesome, me)

Getting Out of Your Bean Bag Chair

Getting out of a bean bag chair can seem like a daunting task. Well I am here to tell you there is nothing to fear. Bean bag chair egress does not have to be challenge when you choose the right technique. Here are the most common options: Push & Rise, Tuck & Roll, and the often controversial Vinyl Sack Slide.

Push & Rise - Developed during the Industrial Revolution, the Push & Rise (sometimes called Traditional) method has been around for a while. Using the arm muscles to slightly elevate the body from the bean bag chair makes the job of standing up a little less stressful for the legs. The P&R method does not require great strength, but is not the prefered choice of the weak or elderly.

Tuck & Roll - The Tuck & Roll method is the method of choice for Americans ages 27 - 34 and many Canadians ages 52 - 78. It relies on the simple principle of gravity to assist in the egress process. Simply lean to the side and pull the weight of your torso forward. Gravity kicks in and does the rest. The trick with the T&R is to remain graceful. This technique has the tendancy to get sloppy so try practicing a couple times in a room by yourself before attempting it in front of friends and loved-ones.

Vinyl Sack Slide - Popularized in the early 80's, this method has been the subject of debate since its inception. Though currently banned from professional bean bag chair egress tournaments, the technique is still widely practiced in many ametuer and underground bean bag chair arenas. The method consists of sliding down the front of the bean bag chair using special friction resisting clothing. Using such apparel can shave .008 seconds off the total egress time. This method can only be used while sitting in a vinyl bean bag chair or similar materials.

Being the Bean Bag Chair Pro, I cannot fully endorse or condemn one method against another. I suggest trying each method so you can make an informed decision yourself. Be sure to take certain variables into consideration when choosing a method. Such variables may include: weight, height, alergic reactions, bean bag preference, local customs, peer pressure, and elevation. With lots of hard work and certain failure afoot, getting out of your bean bag chair can be a wonderful experience, but certainly not daunting.

Musical Chairs

If you asked me what my favorite band was, I couldn't tell you. I used to have an answer ready to go and I would talk about my favorite band for minutes. Now I don't have an answer and I use the ole standby, "I listen to everything" (formerly "I listen to everything except country"). But I now listen to everything. What's my point? None really- I am just trying to see how fast I can type- and I thought musical chairs was a clever title considering I am a self-proclaimed bean bag chair expert.

The First Official Post

Hello and welcome to my first official post of my unofficial blog.
